Standard vs. Template-based Hub duplication

See that elements are retained and wiped for each duplication type

🧰 What You Will Need

A Hub to duplicate

Hub duplication allows users to create a copy of an existing Hub (website). There are two types of duplication:

  • Standard Hub duplication – Creates an exact copy of a Hub inside your account while resetting specific fields. This can only be done within the same account for security and data protection reasons.
  • Template-based Hub duplication – Generates a fresh Hub from a template URL, removing user-specific data and certain elements that should not be transferred.

This document outlines what is retained vs. what is wiped for both duplication types.

What can I use this for?

We typically duplicate Hubs for the following reasons:

  • Create a test Hub environment for safe experimentation
  • Set a staging Hub for testing before deployment
  • Quickly deploy a similar Hub without starting from scratch

How to duplicate a Hub

Standard Hub Duplication

Go to your Hubs list. Click the three-dot menu on the Hub card to copy and click Duplicate. Give your new Hub a name and then click Duplicate once more. Your Hub will now appear on your Hubs list.

Template-based Hub duplication

Click the three-dot menu on the Hub card to copy and select Copy Template URL.

Paste the URL onto the browser to create the duplicate and create a name for your Hub.

Retained vs. wiped elements

Standard Hub Duplication

A standard duplication creates an exact copy of an existing Hub while resetting certain fields to prevent conflicts.

✅ Retained Data

  • Themes, sections, pages, and menu items
  • All Hub playlists (copied and reprocessed)
    • NOTE: You need to re-add playlists to your Hub sections
  • All images and media i.e., thumbnails, and backgrounds (duplicated and reassigned)
  • All video files (Content library files)
  • Custom attributes and fields (including metadata and profile settings)
  • Wisdom plugin settings
  • Nested blocks in sections
  • Parent-Child page and section relationships (updated for the new Hub)
  • Parent-Child menu relationships (navigation links are copied)

❌ Removed or Reset Data

  • Custom email templates
  • Payment gateway ID
  • Certain Parent-Child relationships have been updated to reference the new Hub's structure

💡 For example: A call-to-action (CTA) button from from the duplicated section, which is originally linked to the content playlist page, will be reset. You'll have to reconfigure the CTA button to link it to the appropriate Hub content playlist page again.

Template-based Hub duplication

A template duplication is designed to create a new Hub without personal user data, custom attributes, and certain elements.

✅ Retained Data

  • Themes, sections, pages, menu items, and email templates
  • All images and media i.e., thumbnails and backgrounds (copied and reassigned)
  • Parent-Child page and section relationships (updated for the new Hub)
  • Parent-Child menu relationships (updated for the new Hub)

❌ Removed or Reset Data

  • Custom email templates
  • Payment gateway ID
  • Playlists
  • All video files (Content library files)
  • Custom attributes and fields (removed)
  • Wisdom plugin settings (wiped)
  • Nested blocks in sections (deleted)
  • Ownership data e.g., User and Team ID (transferred to the new owner)
  • Certain Parent-Child relationships are updated to reference the new Hub's structure
