Set up Segments using Audience Attribute information

Use information collected through your Audience Attributes to populate a Segment

🧰 What You Will Need

  • A Hub set to private

  • Audience Attributes connected to your Hub's onboarding process

What can I use this for?

Did you know you can customize who sees what is inside your Hub? This is done using information collected using your Audience Attributes inside of your Hub's onboarding process.

By creating a Segment using information from your Audience Attributes, you can set up your Hub to show your audience Segment-controlled Hub sections right after they enter your Hub. In this article, we'll walk you through the various ways to set up a Segment using Audience Attribute filters.

πŸ’‘For Example

Let's say that you have a baking membership site. You can create an Audience Attribute that polls each member on their baking expertise level. Each member, as they onboard into your Hub, will indicate whether they're a beginner, intermediate or expert baker. πŸ₯§

Using three
Segments, one for each baking level, you can show each person one of three Playlists that correspond to their baking level. This means that they'll be seeing content that meets them where they're at, right out of the gate. 🀯

Ready? Let's go! πŸ’ͺ πŸš€

Step 1 - Create a new Audience Segment

Get started by heading to the Audiences tab inside your Membership.io account.

Click and open the Filter and Segment menu to create a new Audience Segment. This is where we'll customize your Segment using conditions related to your Audience Attributes.

Step 2 - Set the conditions for your Segment

Use the Segment Filters to select your first (or only) Segment condition. You can access your Attributes by selecting Personal Details and then Attributes.

Set segment conditions

The best Audience Attributes to use in your Segments are the Attributes that are not open-ended. Multiple Choice or True/False Attributes work best.

Once you're happy with your Segment Filters, click β˜‘οΈ Confirm to load your updated Segment. Be sure to click Save as segment to name and apply your new Segment.

Save segment name

Step 3 - Attach your Segment to a Hub section

With your Segment created, you can now attach it to one or more Hub sections.

Head into your Hub Editor to find the Hub section you want to attach your Segment. Click on the πŸ‘ icon to restrict your Hub section visibility to a specific Audience Segment.

Click visibility icon and choose Audience

From here, select the Segment you just created and click β˜‘οΈ Select Segment to save your changes.

Choose the segment to assign visibility

That's it! πŸ€“ Now everyone who fits into a specific Segment will see the Hub section you've granted them access to.
