Learn when to use Audience Tags and Audience Attributes
What can I use this for?
We use Audience Tags and Audience Attributes to organize and manage audience members. Both are attached to Audience Profiles and Audience Segments.
They differ primarily on how they're applied to Audience Profiles. The Hub creator (you!) creates and applies Audience Tags to an Audience Profile. On the other hand, the Hub creator creates these Audience Attributes but the Hub audience members fill out these attributes.
Tags and Attributes also differ according to who can see them. Audience Tags are internal, meaning only you can see them. Audience Attributes are front-facing, meaning you and your audience can see them.
After applying both Audience Tags and Audience Attributes to Audience Profiles, you can create Segments from them. By utilizing Audience Tags or Attributes to filter and segment your audience, and then applying these to a Hub Section, you can personalize the visibility of content within a private Hub.
Audience Tags
Audience Tags are similar to Content Tags and are used on Membership.io's backend to help you sort your audience members.
You can apply Audience Tags to any Audience Profile on Membership.io. You can also use Zapier or a CSV import to apply Audience Tags.
You can apply an unlimited number of Audience Tags to an unlimited number of audience profiles and use these to control content visibility by using Audience Tags as Segment filters.
Again, Audience Tags are completely internal, which means your audience members will never know that you've added a best-person-ever Audience Tag to their profile. 😉
Audience Attributes
Audience Attributes allow you to collect and use information about your audience. Attributes, unlike Tags, are filled out by your audience members.
Attribute information is collected during the Hub onboarding process or via the Account Settings > Profile page.
You can use information collected through Audience Attributes to build an Audience Directory in your Hub or show your audience personalized content inside of their Hub.
Audience Attributes are visible to both you and your audience members. You can control the privacy of these Attributes, ensuring that audience members cannot view each other's personal information.
Note that audience members can hide their profile visibility in the Hub so that no personal information shows up when their profile is visited.
