What tech stack do I need?

See what other platforms you can complement your Membership.io account with.

Membership.io's zone of genius is private content experiences. In short, we create really, really good courses, membership sites and coaching programs using our Hubs feature.

Membership.io can handle:

  • 📁 Content hosting: You can upload and store your video, audio and PDF content to store it in one centralized, searchable Library.
  • 📝 Transcribing and captioning: Every video and audio file is automatically transcribed and captioned by word spoken as it's uploaded into your account.
  • 💬 Community forum: You can use a Hub to host your community. This community can also be part of your products, like a course, membership or coaching program.
  • 🖥️ Sell paid products: You can use Hubs to host digital products like courses, membership sites, workshops and more. Generally any products with video/audio content are most compatible with our platform (as opposed to PDF only or blog-based content).
  • 📱 Mobile app: Any Hub can be converted into a custom branded mobile app. Reach out to our team at help@membership.io if you'd like our team to build an app from your Hub for you.

What platforms do I need to pair with Membership.io?

We always recommend using any existing platforms you're already comfortable with. You do not need to move email, payment or website platforms if you're switching to Membership.io. Rather, we encourage you to integrate Membership.io with any platforms that are working well for your business.

When building your tech stack with Membership.io, you'll want to consider the following needs:

  • 💌 A platform to email your list: While our community forums have some email notification options for paid members, Membership.io is not meant to replace.
  • 🏠 A platform to host your public website and/or landing pages: Hubs work best for private members areas. We recommend using a different platform to host your public-facing website, your blog, your landing pages and your shop pages.
  • 💰 A platform to collect payments: Membership.io has a direct integration with both Stripe and Kit. If you're using another, different shopping cart, you can pass purchase information from your cart into Membership.io through Zapier, our API docs, or webhooks where applicable.
  • 📞 A platform to host your live calls: Membership.io doesn't support live streaming at this time. We recommend hosting your live calls on a platform like Zoom. You can provide a link to your live calls inside your Hub to create a seamless experience for your Members.
  • 🔒 If you want to add a custom domain to your Hub, you will need a free Cloudflare account. Membership.io requires Domain Name System (DNS) Management to be CloudFlare as it is the only Content Delivery Network (CDN) that provides a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate. We know that's a wordy sentence. See this article for more information on domains.
  • 🎒 Any other platform needed to run your business. Each business has unique needs, so what other platforms you need depends on what you're looking to do. Other common platforms that businesses with online products have include graphic design platforms like Canva, a calendar platform like AddEvent or Tockify, automation platforms like Zapier, and analytic platforms like Google Analytics.

What happens if my shopping cart platform isn't compatible with Zapier?

Using your shopping cart isn't the only option for keeping your Membership.io account up to date with current active members. Ideally what needs to happen is for Membership.io to get confirmation when new members are added and when existing members leave, or have failed payments. Other than a shopping cart platform, your email service provider can also provide this information and act as a "trigger".

If your cart doesn't integrate with Zapier, see if your email platform does. You can create an automation to grant Hub access once someone is added to a list (or receives a tag). From there, you can also set up another automation to revoke Hub access once someone is removed from a list.
