Improve transcriptions with Custom Vocabulary

Fine-tune transcriptions by teaching the system your unique terms

🧰 What You Will Need

  • A Membership.io account

  • Some niche- or brand-specific words

Custom Vocabulary lets you teach the system your brand and industry-specific terms, so your automated transcriptions and captions are more accurate from the start.

Step 1 - Head to your Transcriptions Settings

Access the Transcripts page through your Profile Settings, under Content > Transcripts.

Step 2 - Choose the Vocabulary language

From here, choose the language from the Vocabulary list that you wish to update with some new terms. For example, if you are planning on uploading a media file with US English audio, choose that language and proceed.

Go to transcripts and choose default language

Step 3 - Add words to your Custom Vocabulary

Now you can start adding words to your Custom Vocabulary. Simply type the word(s) into the field and hit Enter on your keyboard. Once you're done adding your terms, click Save. The next time you upload some media, those vocabulary terms will be used to improve the accuracy of the first-pass transcription.

Add new words to vocab

NOTE: There are limitations to the characters you can enter into your Custom Vocabulary. Below are the acceptable characters:

  • a - z
  • A - Z

Adding characters such as "@#%!/235" or anything else outside of the characters listed above will not be accepted as a Vocabulary term.

What are some Custom Vocabulary best practices?

There are a few steps you will want to take when trying to optimize the accuracy of the automated transcriptions that Membership.io provides.

  • Keep your Custom Vocabulary up to date and make sure you are transcribing in the correct language
  • Speak clearly in all uploaded media
  • Have a dedicated recording device like a microphone condenser, label mic, etc.
  • When recording a meeting, try to have only one person speak at a time
  • Avoid echoing and noisy rooms as well as wind and background noise when possible
