Proofread your audio or video transcripts

Use proofreading tools or professional services to review your transcripts and improve their accuracy before sharing your content

Why proofread your transcripts?

Membership.io automatically transcribes your audio and video content, but transcription errors can still occur. Reviewing your transcripts can help correct misheard words, spelling mistakes, and punctuation issues, making your content easier to read and understand.

If you have a long transcript or want to save time, consider using a third-party proofreading or editing tool. You can choose between automated tools, manual proofreading, or professional services depending on your needs and budget.

Step 1 – Download your transcript

In your Membership.io Library, locate the audio or video file and download its transcript as an SRT file.

Step 2 – Choose a proofreading method

You can review the transcript yourself, use a proofreading tool, or seek help from a professional.

  • Automated tools: Use a proofreading or editing tool to identify potential spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors. Some tools offer free features or usage limits.
  • Professional proofreading: If you need a more thorough review, consider hiring a professional proofreader or using a transcription service that offers human review. For example, REVoffers human transcription and expert review services. Check whether the service can review your existing transcript or requires a new transcription order.
  • Manual proofreading: Listen to your original recording while following the transcript to check for misheard words, missing content, and incorrect speaker names.

Step 3 – Review the corrected transcript

Review the corrected transcript. Check that the text accurately reflects your original recording. Pay particular attention to names, technical terms, and words that may be difficult to transcribe. If you're using an SRT file, make sure its timestamps and formatting remain intact.

Step 4 – Replace your existing transcript

Once you're satisfied with the corrections, upload the revised SRT file to replace the existing transcript in Membership.io.

For instructions, see Replace an Existing Transcript with an SRT File.

💡 TIP: Automated proofreading tools can help identify potential errors, but they may not recognize every mistake. Review the corrected transcript before uploading it to your Library to ensure it accurately reflects your original content.
