Edit a Hub without publishing changes live

Prepare Hub updates using unpublished pages and sections to prevent disruption and negative member experience

🧰 What You Will Need

  • A Hub
  • (Optional) An empty Segment for hiding in-progress content

If you’re preparing to rebrand your Hub (such as updating colors, updating layouts, or reorganizing content), you may want to implement and manage these changes without disrupting the member experience. This article outlines a best-practice workflow for editing your Hub safely in the background.

Changing your live Hub while members are actively using it can lead to broken layouts, unfinished content or inconsistent branding. To keep everything running smoothly, it’s best to duplicate the sections or pages you want to update, make your changes in those copies, and then "flip" to the new version once everything looks great.

Step 1 - Duplicate the page or section in the Hub Editor

To duplicate a Hub page, click the three-dot menu button and select Duplicate.

Three-dot menu - Duplicate

To duplicate a section, hover on the section or page you want to update and click the copy/duplicate icon.

Click on the duplicate icon

Consider giving your copy a clear name like “Content Page Draft.” That way, you’ll always know which workspace is safe for making updates behind the scenes.

Step 2 - Keep the duplicate hidden from your members

To make sure the draft version isn’t visible, set the section to “Hidden."

Click the eye icon on the duplicate and set to Hidden

NOTE: This will gray it out in the editor which could make it harder to work with for some. If you want, you can assign the duplicated content to an empty Segment (a Segment that contains no members).

Create and choose an empty segment

Follow this guide on how to use segments to control visibility.

Step 3 - Finalize your changes in the duplicate

Go ahead and make any updates you need, whether it’s tweaking visuals, rearranging layouts, or refreshing your content. You can:

  • Preview changes directly in the editor
  • Move drafts in place while you iterate
  • Invite teammates to review before launch

Step 4 - Replace the old version with the new one

When you’re happy with the new version, delete (or hide) the original section or page.

If you used an empty Segment to keep your draft hidden, be sure to remove it from your new version.

Make sure to Save your changes so your newly refreshed Hub becomes visible to your members.

IMPORTANT: Double-check any navigation links, buttons, or menus that pointed to the old version. Update them if needed to make sure your members are directed to the new sections or pages, and that nothing leads to missing or outdated content.

Summary of steps

Here’s a quick summary of the steps:

Duplicate the page or section you want to update

Hide the duplicate by setting it to “Hidden” or assigning it to an empty Segment

Make all your changes in the duplicate version

Delete or hide the old version when you’re done

Remove the Segment (if used) to make the updated content visible

Save your changes to confirm everything is live

Check all links and navigation to ensure everything points to the right content
