Can I sell multiple company seats for my product?
Offering multiple seats for your course or coaching programs.
While Membership.io doesn't have a built-in "multiple seats" option, there are still a few ways to deliver multiple seats if you sell to companies or organizations.
There are a few different scenarios that this process works for. Some examples include:
- 1 "all-access" administrator pass and 5 "team member" passes where the administrator sees more content than the team members see.
- 5 "team members" seats that people can use for unique Hub logins.
- 3 or 5 or unlimited "team member" seats to a specific Hub and 1 "all-access" seat to an administrator Hub and the team member Hub.
In a nutshell, if you're selling access to more than one person per purchase, we can consider this "multi-seat access".
There are a couple moving parts needed to manage multi-seat access:
- 💵 Payments: At the center of multi-seat access is being able to collect payment for the appropriate number of seats. You can use any shopping cart platform you'd like. Most people show multiple pricing options on their check out page. The administrator is usually the only person who fills out this form.
- For example: 1 seat at $39 per month month or 5 seats at $145 per month
- 📝 Member Registration Form: Generally only 1 name and email is collected at the point of purchase on your check out page. For this reason, you need a way to collect the names and emails (along with any other essential details) of the other remaining people who will occupy the other seats. The easiest way to do this is with a simple form created in Typeform, Google Forms, Airtable or any other form/quiz platform you're comfortable with.
- NOTE: The administrator may or may not complete the member registration form on behalf of the team members who will claim the other seats. This form works best when sent directly to the administrator, or when placed in an easy-to-locate area for administrators.
- ☎️ Membership.io Hub Access: Both the Payments and Member Registration information needs to pass into Membership.io to make sure that the right people get access to the right Hub(s) and the right Hub content. This is generally accomplished by using Zapier to pass name and email details from the member registration form into Membership.io to grant and revoke Hub access.
- NOTE: There are ways to Segment who sees what if you're looking to customize a different view for administrators and team members.
- 🚪 Member Offboarding Process: In addition to a member registration process, you need a process for removing Hub access to some or all seats if a payment fails or if someone leaves the organization. Most people opt to revoke Hub access manually to ensure the proper access is revoked and all records and mailing lists updated accordingly.
- TIP: One thing we recommend doing to help simplify this process is tagging everyone from one organization (essentially one purchase) with the same Audience Tag. This makes it easier to locate, filter for, and modify access for multiple accounts at once.
Once you have clarity on these four elements, you can finalize your multi-seat product offering using the following process:
- Set up your Hub. Create and populate the product (course, membership, etc.) that you're looking to sell access to. Lock any restricted content with a Segment.
- Create and share your check out page. Add any necessary seat products and information on what's included.
- Create one or more member registration forms. Collect the names and emails of the people occupying the additional seats.
- Confirm and setup your process for granting and removing Hub access. If you're looking to use Zapier to automate this part of the process, you can create a Zap that is triggered by the member registration form being filled to. The Zap should use the information from the member registration form to create or update the audience profile of the person(s) listed on the member registration to grant them Hub access. Don't forget to also account for the administrator if they should also be granted Hub access!
- Provide the buyer/administrator the link to the member registration form. Provide the member registration form to the administrator after their purchase. You can send the link via email, or add a section about the form to their Hub, or anywhere else that makes sense for you and the administrators.
- You're all set! Sit back and enjoy your hard work. 😎
